June 1st marked the beginning of hurricane
season and the American Red Cross reminds us to
prepare a hurricane survival kit by having
hurricane survival supplies readily available
and easily transportable. But a poll
commissioned by the NOAA shows that only many
residents of the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts still
do not have a hurricane survival plan. Experts
say that residents inland are probably even less
prepared for a hurricane.

severe thunderstorm warnings were extended

buildings, sweeping up people and objects, and
demoralizing nearly everything in their paths.
The effects were undeniably catastrophic.
According to adb.org over 35,000 people died and
over 400,000 were displaced. Add this to the
billions in property damage and it seems obvious
that the true value of the destruction can never
be accurately calculated.
